Ozil’s Agent Makes Bold Statement on His Client’s Future at the Emirates

Mesut Özil still has no plans to leave Arsenal until the end of his contract, according to quotes from the player’s agent on Friday.

Dr Erkut Sogut, who works as an agent for Mesut Özil, says the player doesn’t plan to leave the club before 2021. That’s when the playmaker’s contract lasts until, and he doesn’t intend to cut it short.

In fact, the agent suggests they aren’t even in negotiations with the club right now, either relating to an extension or a sale.

“At the moment, we don’t even talk about it, because he still has one-and-a-half-years left,” Sögüt said. “He still has 15 months to go. Until then, he will stay at Arsenal, for sure. He will stay until the end of his contract. There’s no chance he’ll leave.

“Maybe he will stay and have a new contract with Arsenal. Maybe he has a good end to the season and good next season and the club offers him a new contract.

“It’s down to the club in the end, not to me or Mesut. If the club is not giving him an offer then he can’t stay. If he gets an offer from the club he will consider it.”

Özil is up to 22 appearances for the season, and he’s a regular under Arteta.

The 31-year-old only missed out on two matches with the new head coach, sitting on the bench against Bournemouth in the FA Cup and missing the Olympiacos away match for personal reasons. He started every other game up to this point.

The result of that Olympiacos tie could change things though. Arsenal are out of the Europa League, and they need to reflect and attempt to refocus for the remainder of the season.

That doesn’t mean Özil has to drop out. It’s just a much stronger possibility that Arteta might look to shake things up a bit to get the campaign back on track.
