Leicester City are trying to tie James Maddison down to a new contract despite interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 23-year-old midfielder is not out of contract until 2023 after signing a new deal last summer that sees him earn around £55k-per-week, a sum that both Arsenal and Manchester United could double without thinking about it.
Leicester are not only keen to keep hold of Maddison, they want to add to their midfield rather than diminish it as Brendan Rodgers looks to increase what he feels is a small squad.
Maddison, being young, English and tied to a long-term contract would most likely cost far too much for Arsenal who recently announced a £27.1m loss on their accounts up until the end of May 2019.
Maddison is currently valued at around £54m, however we all know that he is likely to go for much more than that, especially if United really are involved.
Arsenal might well be interested but at this point that’s like me being interested in hiring Lady Gaga to serenade me personally. It’s a nice idea, but absolutely no way is it happening.
