Shkodran Mustafi took part in full training with Arsenal over the last few days, following his injury in the latter stages of the Olympiacos clash.
Shkodran Mustafi was a fringe player under Unai Emery and Freddie Ljungberg earlier in the season, but there’s no doubt he’s a starter under Mikel Arteta.
The centre-back made the lineup in all of Arsenal’s last eight games, usually completing the full 90 minutes.
He did so again in the home defeat to Olympiacos on Thursday, but ended up picking up an injury in extra time. It was a big shame for him and Arsenal, as he made a few crucial tackles and blocks earlier in the game.
Unfortunately, Arsenal went on to lose and exit the Europa League, but the good news is that Mustafi is back in full training again immediately.
He was with the squad on Sunday afternoon in the final session before their FA Cup clash with Portsmouth.
Whether he’s ready to start Wednesday’s match is another matter. He may well get a rest to allow the likes of Pablo Mari and Rob Holding a rare start. It’s just good not to have another long-term defensive injury.
