Arsenal Agree to Offer Short-term Contract Deals to Ceballos, Soares & Mari

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal could extend their loanee contracts past June 30th on a week-by-week basis, if the season goes on beyond that date, according to a report.

Writing for The Athletic, David Ornstein reported that out-of-contract players would be able to sign weekly extensions should the football season go on into July. The FA and FIFA would be willing to grant special dispensation in those circumstances.

Of course, the problem is that the player has to accept as well. You can’t force any of them to sign on, which puts the players in a strong negotiating position.

For Arsenal, loanees Dani Ceballos, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares would need short-term extensions, assuming the Gunners don’t sign any or all of them permanently on July 1st. Matt Macey is also out of contract this summer.

You’d hope Mari and Soares would sign on, considering they seem to want permanent stays. The situation with Ceballos is more complicated though.

If the Premier League decide to play out the rest of the season but La Liga don’t, Ceballos would risk his Real Madrid future by completing the campaign with Arsenal and returning late after a delayed holiday.

Across the league, there will be plenty of stories like that. Players who already had a summer move planned, or who try to take advantage of their position to force their club to pay extra.

Right now, it’s still difficult for me to imagine the season playing out over the summer.
