Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes is well aware of all the speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League, but he says he’s happy where he is.

22-year-old Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes is catching the eye with his performances in Ligue 1 this season, reportedly drawing interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Athletic first reported Arsenal’s pursuit of the defender, naming the Gunners as one of several clubs in for him. Most of the reports suggest the Premier League is his next destination, regardless of the specific club.

The player himself says his friends are always sending him reports of his apparent next move. Whilst that flatters him, Gabriel insists he is happy at Lille.

“I see it, yes,” Gabriel said of the Premier League transfer speculation (via GFFN). “Every day, my friends send me things: clubs, lots of clubs…

“I am happy, because my work, and everything that I am doing, is being recompensed. It can only do good things for me, but also for people around me. But I am happy at Lille, I feel very good, very happy at the club. I like this club.

“I do not know what is going to happen, but the aim is to take Lille into the Champions’ League again. For everything else, I will let my agents and the club speak on it, but I am very happy here.”

Gabriel is up to 34 appearances for the season, and he was on a good run of form before the coronavirus shutdown. Lille hadn’t conceded a single goal in his last five appearances, despite losing 2-1 in the one game he missed.

They didn’t have such a good run in the Champions League, only earning one point from six games. They did have a tough group, in fairness, and that clearly hasn’t put anyone off.
