The Premier League will play four games a day at Wembley if it helps them complete the current season, according to one inside source.

An inside source reportedly claimed the Premier League could restart in June with behind-closed-doors games. In order to squeeze all the remaining fixtures in, they could even play multiple matches at Wembley Stadium on the same day.

The logistics of playing so many matches in such a short space of time is one of the main problems to overcome for the league. From that point of view, Wembley makes sense. It’s a large modern stadium where they regularly host multiple matches in a weekend.

It’s almost at the point where I’ve given up on bringing up the integrity of the competition. That clearly isn’t a factor anymore. We’re just pushing through to get the season done regardless of whether the format is fair.

If we have to play matches at random grounds like Wembley to minimise travel around the country, that’s what they’ll do.

The prioritisation of player safety is obviously key. Still, that doesn’t explain why this artificial format is fairer than just calling off the season and starting again. It doesn’t seem like a superior option to waiting until it’s safe to return to a more traditional schedule.

Those options are clearly both safer and fairer. Not as financially-viable, though.
