Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang denies rumours of a recent contract extension offer from Arsenal, whilst insisting he hasn’t made a decision yet.

Earlier this month, there were conflicting reports on a possible contract extension offer from Arsenal to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

L’Equipe claimed Arsenal recently made an offer, Julien Laurens said they didn’t, Fabrizio Romano said they made one in December. Aubameyang himself tells Telefoot (via GFFN) that there’s no recent offer, but he is in talks with the club.

“Recently I have not received an offer to extend,” Aubameyang insisted. “But of course we have had exchanges with the club, for a fair few months now. And they know very well why so far nothing has happened.

“They have the keys. Up to them to do their work and after that we will see how things go. As you said it is a turning point in my career, and I will be very frank with everyone, it will certainly be a very difficult decision to make.

“Because I still have not decided and we will see. It will maybe be the most important decision of my career.”

Aubameyang went on to say that he’s hungry to win titles, but reiterated that there’s still no decision over whether that will be with Arsenal or elsewhere. The club “have the keys” to the situation, whatever that means.

Ideally, it means he’s set his terms and Arsenal just have to match them. As long as the financials aren’t completely ridiculous, you’d imagine the Gunners will willingly pay up to keep their star player.

However, it’s just as likely Aubameyang means it’s up to Arsenal to prove their ambition on and off the pitch. He might not want to sign until they qualify for the Champions League, or make a marquee signing. Those things are much harder to guarantee.
