David Ospina conceded directly to a Christian Eriksen corner but quickly redeemed himself in a night of drama for the former Arsenal goalkeeper.
For anyone who missed it, Saturday night’s Coppa Italia clash between Napoli and Inter Milan was a David Ospina classic. It certainly started badly, as Christian Eriksen scored against Ospina directly from a corner.
The goalkeeper appeared to misjudge the effort due to the two Napoli players missing headers in front of him, but that’s no real excuse for letting it in.
After that, with the aggregate scoreline at 1-1, Ospina was on a mission to redeem himself.
The 31-year-old ended up playing a big part in Napoli’s equalising goal on the night, firing a drop-kick over half the length of the pitch to find Lorenzo Insigne, who carried the ball forwards before squaring for Dries Mertens to score.
After that, Napoli had the advantage again, and Ospina made a few good saves to keep it that way.
Just as you might think it was turning into a positive night for the Colombian, he picked up a yellow card for time-wasting that will now see him miss the final. He received a booking in the first leg for exactly the same reason.
At least Napoli made the final, so that’s what Ospina will have to settle for.
