The injury to Pablo Mari doesn’t look good, but we’ll have to wait for more news on him and Granit Xhaka, according to head coach Mikel Arteta.
Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari both went off in the first half of Arsenal’s match away to Manchester City, and Mikel Arteta gave an update on their situation after the game.
“They are getting assessed at the moment and we will know something more probably tomorrow morning,” Arteta said. “Pablo’s one did not look really good, to be fair.”
This casts some doubt on Mari’s future with Arsenal altogether. If the injury is something serious, keeping him out for the long-term, it seems unlikely the club will extend his contract on a permanent basis. It’s too much of a risk for the amount it would cost.
Arteta will hope Xhaka’s injury is just a scare because, without Mari, the midfielder is a crucial part of the game the head coach wants to play. As he says, we should know more in the coming days.
As for Sokratis Papastathopoulos, he missed the Manchester City game with an injury, with no official word on the problem just yet. However, Sky reported in commentary on their match coverage that he’d miss a couple of weeks of action.
