Huge Boost as Arsenal Target Confirms He’s Unhappy With His Current Club

Orkun Kokcu says his Feyenoord career isn’t over just yet, but he isn’t happy with the contract offers they’re making him.

Speaking to Voetbal International this week, Orkun Kokcu confirmed the reports that he turned down two contract extension offers from Feyenoord earlier this year. However, he did add that his time in the Netherlands isn’t over yet.

“I’m not done here yet, I’m having a good time, I want to become champion next year,” Kokcu said. “But I’ve had an offer twice now that – with all due respect – wasn’t what I’d hoped for. And now it is quiet.

“I don’t know if it’s conscious, but it sometimes feels like the club is waiting to sell me after all. That there is no turning back. It feels a bit uncomfortable. Does Feyenoord want me to stay?”

Recent reports link Arsenal with a move for the 19-year-old. Goal’s Charles Watts confirmed the club ‘really like’ the midfielder, though added that it’s difficult to predict whether they can afford a move in the current market.

More outlandish reports from Turkey even suggested Arsenal were already close to a €25m move. That seems unlikely right now, but perhaps possible if the Gunners end the season in the European places.

Kokcu does still have a contract with Feyenoord until 2023. If they don’t receive a big bid and can’t convince him to extend, it’s still a few years before they’d have no other option but to let him go.

Given his age, however, Feyenoord will be wary of raising him up just to lose him for free right as he comes into his own. They may consider an imminent sale the better outcome.
