Lille manager Christophe Galtier says he’s known for a long time that Arsenal target Victor Osimhen will leave this summer.

The Daily Mail claim Lille striker Victor Osimhen is an Arsenal target this summer, and the 21-year-old is close to leaving his current club just a year after joining.

Lille owner Gerard previously confirmed they have multiple offers for Osimhen. Now, head coach Christophe Galtier says he’ll move on this summer.

“Regarding Victor and Gabriel [Magalhaes], yes, I’ve known for a long time that they’re leaving,” Galtier said.

“They’re working hard with us in the meantime. We’re working on the players who are currently here and those likely to replace them. Of course, the club is working to replace him [Osimhen].”

Osimhen scored 18 goals, assisted five and won one penalty leading to a goal scored by a teammate in his first season with Lille, making 38 appearances. This included a goal against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.

This wouldn’t be the first time Arsenal have tried to sign Osimhen. They attempted to bring him in before he even signed his pre-contract deal with Wolfsburg in 2016 (to join officially in 2017).

Osimhen said at the time: “It’s true that a big team like Arsenal wanted me and I feel honoured to be invited over. But personally I feel Wolfsburg is a ladder for me to reach my professional goals.”

The problem is that Lille reportedly want a similar fee to the kind Arsenal paid for Nicolas Pepe last summer. You’d imagine there’s no way the Gunners can afford that unless it’s in the same kind of instalment package and they make a major sale this summer.
