Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, Sky Sport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Lydia Williams is widely regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in W-League history.

The Australia international is an exceptional shotstopper and commanding presence inside the area – but how will her distribution fare in Joe Montemurro’s system?

The 32-year-old goalkeeper started her career at Canberra United FC in 2008, making 48 appearances for the club in her first spell.

Lydia has since gone on to play for seven clubs across the world, from the NWSL in North America, to the Damallsvenskan in Sweden, making a further 147 appearances.

As the Matildas’ No 1, Lydia has made 88 international appearances and will now join up with compatriots Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord in north London.

“I haven’t always grown up playing that way, but it’s definitely a side of my game that I’ve developed over a number of years,” Williams told Arsenal.com.

“I’ve been playing that way for a long time now with the national team and at every club that I’ve been at.

“It’s been the philosophy [for a while now], so to really build on that with a team that believes on starting their attack from the back and playing out, it’s really exciting and makes me a multi-dimension goalkeeper, rather than just saving balls.

“It’s exciting to see how Arsenal’s stamped their way in the WSL, so now it’s about how I can help with that.”
