Arsenal aren’t trying to sign Allan Saint-Maximin, according to David Ornstein, despite the rumours linking the two in the last few days.
Speaking on The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein denied the rumours linking Arsenal with a summer move for Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
“Arsenal are not interested in Allan Saint-Maximin,” Ornstein said.
“He’s not a target that they are pursuing. Again, I don’t know if he was somewhere on their list, but that is one I think we can scotch off.”
The Northern Echo had written that Arsenal were ‘ready to test Newcastle United’s resolve’ to hold onto the Frenchman.
They suggested the Gunners could make an approach for the winger, particularly if the club sale to Saudi Arabia didn’t go through.
Saint-Maximin himself didn’t help much to quell the rumours. He regularly dresses his children in Arsenal kits, appearing to support the Gunners despite his current professional allegiances.
Unfortunately, that’s not currently likely to lead to a move, based on the latest quotes from Ornstein. To be honest, this isn’t exactly surprising.
The 23-year-old still has a contract in Newcastle for another five years. Plus, Arsenal don’t exactly have money to spare this summer. Even if the player would be keen on the move, that’s not going to make his club desperate to sell.
We saw last summer with Wilfried Zaha that being an Arsenal fan and drawing interest from the club doesn’t necessarily result in a transfer.
It’s a moot point, anyway. It seems Arsenal have no plans to pursue Saint-Maximin this summer. So that’s the end of it.
