Philippe Coutinho wants to return to England and Arsenal are one of the teams with a concrete interest in a summer loan move, according to reports.
Goal in Brazil report that representatives of Coutinho are pushing a move to England, seeking out Arsenal and Newcastle United in concrete terms.
A move to the Gunners would reportedly involve a loan with an option to buy, if the club and Coutinho’s agents can convince Barcelona to agree to such a deal. There certainly won’t be any decision until the end of the Premier League season.
Coutinho spent this year on loan with Bayern Munich. He recently returned from an ankle injury to make substitute appearances in the final game of their title-winning league campaign and their 4-2 cup final victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
There’s nothing particularly surprising about Bayern winning domestic trophies, but Coutinho’s nine goals and eight assists in 34 games represent a solid return for the season.
If Arsenal could get another player or two to follow Henrikh Mkhitaryan out the door this summer, they’d probably have no real trouble paying Coutinho’s wages.
Whether there’s any possibility of agreeing an option to buy with Barcelona is another matter.
