VfB Stuttgart and Sven Mislintat are looking to bring in Konstantinos Mavropanos from Arsenal this summer, according to reports in Germany.
Kicker report that VfB Stuttgart are keeping an eye on Konstantinos Mavropanos’ situation ahead of the summer. The club are considering a loan move for the centre-back, as their summer transfer budget could be as low as €5m.
Former Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is working as a sporting director at Stuttgart. He was the one who brought Mavropanos to North London in the first place, so he clearly sees the potential in the player.
I’m not sure how much of an advantage to Stuttgart it would be to have Mislintat in negotiations, though. He didn’t exactly leave Arsenal on the best of terms, after fairly public disagreements over the club’s strategy.
But I’d welcome another loan for Mavropanos, particularly to Stuttgart after their promotion back to the Bundesliga. It would give the 22-year-old another chance to play regularly. At a higher level than his spell with FC Nürnberg this season, too.
That loan recently ended with Nürnberg successfully avoiding relegation. Mavropanos helped them keep a clean sheet in the first leg of their relegation play-off, but had to watch nervously from the bench as it took a 97th-minute goal to keep them up in the second.
The defender made 12 appearances overall, on loan from January until the end of the campaign.
