VfL Bochum are in negotiations with Arsenal over a return for loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu, after his loan spell came to an end last month.
Kicker report that the VfL Bochum hierarchy are in negotiations with Arsenal over another deal for Jordi Osei-Tutu. The German outlet claims the young right-back could possibly return to the club again next season.
Osei-Tutu ‘left an impression’ on Bochum in his loan spell, and they clearly think he’d add something to the team going forward. The full-back actually made most of his appearances for Bochum at right-wing, particularly towards the end of his spell.
After struggling for games at first, the 21-year-old really turned things around in the last few months. By the end of February, he’d still only made 11 appearances (five starts) in all competitions. But after that, he started a run of 11 games, scoring four goals and assisting three.
Bochum only lost one game in 2020 when Osei-Tutu made it onto the pitch, despite losing three of four without him. Even the one they lost was a dead rubber at the very end of the campaign. It’s not surprising they want him back.
There’s no clarity over whether Bochum want a permanent deal or another loan. You’d think the 2. Bundesliga side would struggle to afford the player permanently, though, particularly given his recent progress.
A loan could work for all parties, guaranteeing him regular gametime this time around. On the other hand, Arsenal might hope Osei-Tutu’s recent form caught the eye of a stronger club.
Without meaning any offence to Bochum, they spent much of the season fighting relegation in the German second tier before their late run of results. A Championship loan or a move to a club fighting for promotion might make more sense.
