Chelsea winger and reported Arsenal target Willian has reiterated his desire for a three-year contract, admitting he’ll sign an extension without hesitation if he gets the offer.
Despite signing a short-term contract extension with Chelsea until the end of the season, Willian still looks to be on the way out of Stamford Bridge this summer. The 31-year-old winger will become a free agent unless he agrees on a new deal in the coming weeks.
Arsenal are one of the clubs reportedly in for the Brazilian. However, they’ll have to offer him a three-year contract to convince him to come. Willian made that very clear again in an interview on the De Sola YouTube channel.
“Chelsea only offered me two years and I asked for three,” Willian confirmed (via Metro). “My goal in the next contract is to sign for three years. So I haven’t had a deal with Chelsea yet.
“This is what I asked the club for, three years of contract. If you give me that, I’ll get the pen and sign the contract tomorrow.”
Willian admitted that whilst he’s heard the rumours about teams chasing him, he has no concrete proposal. At this stage, his agent is the only one dealing with the situation, as Willian focuses on the end of the season.
De Sola asking whether Chelsea were showing any reaction to the rumours of interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
“No, not for the time being. Chelsea aren’t jealous. They didn’t say anything. At least they showed no jealousy. They’re letting go,” he jokingly responded.
Willian hit 20 goal contributions for Chelsea in 2019/20 earlier this month, as he proves he isn’t quite finished in Premier League football yet. The problem is that he’s still a financial risk on a three-year contract, even on a free transfer.
