Former Arsenal academy defender Fin Stevens is joining Brentford, signing his first professional contract with the promotion-chasing Championship club.
Brentford FC confirmed on Tuesday that they’re signing Fin Stevens from Worthing on a two-year contract with an option to extend for a third.
Stevens spent 10 years playing for the Arsenal academy, but after he turned 16, the club decided to let him go. We spoke to him at the time about his strengths, footballing idols and how he ended up with the club in the first place.
Initially, he dropped down to non-league academy football, joining the Worthing u18s.
However, Stevens quickly made an impression and ended up making his senior debut and playing regularly for the first-team. Worthing were top of the Isthmian League Premier Division with the teenager in their team pre-lockdown.
Capable of playing full-back and in midfield, Brentford quickly spotted him and made him a professional contract offer.
Stevens isn’t the first to make the switch from the Arsenal academy to Brentford (via Worthing in this case). Josh Dasilva is a regular starter for the promotion hopefuls whilst Dominic Thompson is also slowly making his breakthrough there.
They’ll all hope they can make it through the play-offs to the Premier League for next season.
