Ghana manager Charles Kwabla Akonnor says the national side are in contact with Eddie Nketiah’s family to convince him to play for them.

Ghana boss Akonnor is keen on the Arsenal youngster, and says he’s in contact with Eddie Nketiah’s family over the possibility of a national allegiance switch.

Up to this point, Nketiah played purely for the England youth teams. He’s a regular in the u21s, scoring eight goals in eight games and assisting a couple as well. But he’s eligible for Ghana through his parents.

As a result, the Ghana FA see an opportunity to sway the Arsenal striker before he makes his senior international debut.

“We’ve been able to talk to Eddie Nketiah’s parents. But even though we’ve tried, it doesn’t mean it’s a done deal,” Akonnor told Starr FM (via Goal). “Myself and the Ghana Football Association are working hard at it.”

Nketiah scored a hat-trick in his last appearance for the England u21s, despite the Austrian goalkeeper saving his penalty. He missed out on the November break through injury, but he clearly performs well with his national teammates at youth level.

The question is whether there’s sufficient desire to promote him now. If he doesn’t get any chances in the near future, you couldn’t blame Nketiah for picking up the Ghanaian call.
