Paris Saint-Germain are keeping an eye on Matteo Guendouzi for a possible move this summer, according to reports in France.
L’Equipe (via Calciomercato) report that Paris Saint-Germain are keeping an eye on Arsenal’s Matteo Guendouzi this summer. PSG sporting director Leonardo Araujo prefers Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but expects that deal to prove too expensive.
Leonardo likes Guendouzi’s profile, and is looking at him along with former Gunner Ismael Bennacer of AC Milan. PSG held an interest in Tanguy Ndombele earlier in the window, but that pursuit is cooling now.
Guendouzi is obviously on the market, after the way the 2019/20 season ended. The player fell out with Arsenal behind the scenes over his clash with Neal Maupay after the Brighton defeat, and he trained on his own for the rest of the season.
Even worse for the midfielder, Arsenal had no trouble in his absence. Mikel Arteta’s side won eight of their remaining 11 games and lifted the FA Cup trophy at the end. That was a significantly better record than at any other stage in the campaign.
If PSG make a decent offer, Arsenal are likely to take the money and move on. If there’s one club in Europe who could actually afford to throw money at Arsenal for a young French midfielder, surely it’s them.
