Sampdoria are the latest club to request a loan deal from Arsenal, asking for Mohamed Elneny for the upcoming season, according to reports.

Marco Conterio of Tutto Mercato Web claims Sampdoria hold an interest in signing Mohamed Elneny from Arsenal this summer.

However, they’re only currently looking at a loan deal for the midfielder.

Translated, it says, “There #Sampdoria is interested in Mohamed Elneny of #AFC and is ready to borrow him from #Arsenal.”

The Gunners did let Elneny leave on a loan to Besiktas last summer. At the time, he needed games, having spent the vast majority of the 2018/19 season on the bench.

The circumstances are very different this time around, though. Elneny made 36 appearances for Besiktas as a regular in their side. He then put in a couple of good pre-season performances for Arsenal last week.

The Egyptian international is no longer a player Arsenal are desperately trying to get off the wage bill at all costs. He’s someone who could bring in a few extra million for the transfer budget, at worst.

Another year on loan, running his contract down to a single year whilst he approaches 29 years of age sounds like a really bad idea.

Unless Sampdoria are paying a major loan fee with a reasonable option to buy at the end, I wouldn’t even consider it.
