Brentford have rejected Arsenal’s latest offer for their goalkeeper David Raya and are refusing to countenance the departure of the Spaniard this summer.

Mikel Arteta sanctioned the departure of the long-serving Emiliano Martinez earlier last week having restored Bernd Leno to the starting line-up last weekend.

Martinez starred in the absence of the Germany international last season and helped the Gunners win the FA Cup and Community Shield.

The 27-year-old was, however, reluctant to play second fiddle to Leno and joined Aston Villa in a £20million deal.

Arsenal are expected to confirm the signing of Runar Alex Runarsson from Dijon within the next 24 hours, but Arteta remains keen on capturing Raya and installing the 25-year-old as Leno’s understudy.

Raya is known to Arsenal’s new goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana who worked with the former Blackburn goalkeeper during their time together at Brentford.

Last season’s beaten Championship play-off finalists are determined to keep hold of one of their prize assets and, according to the Guardian, have already knocked back multiple bids of £10m.

Arsenal are also said to have offered to loan Raya back to Brentford for the entirety of the upcoming season but that proposal has also been knocked back.

Brentford have already raised £28million from the sale of striker Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa during the close season and are expected to receive a similar fee should Said Benrahma depart amid reported interest from the likes of Crystal Palace.

Raya missed last weekend’s Championship owner through injury but is expected to return to the team for tomorrow’s game against Huddersfield Town.
