Fans watching Premier League games in pubs risk missing the end of the match due to the new 10pm curfew.

The Government has announced that a strict curfew will begin on Thursday which will see all pubs, bars and restaurants close at 10pm.

But with some Premier League fixtures scheduled to begin as late as 8.15pm, people watching matches in pubs and bars will miss the end of the action. Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Monday night which is due to kick off at 8.15pm.

The first half will likely finish beyond 9pm, while a 15-minute half-time break plus an addition 45-minute second half, which will include injury time, would see the game finish beyond 10pm.

Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against Wolves, which kicked off at 8.15pm, finished at 10.08pm on Monday evening.

Pub owners have already described the decision to enforce a 10pm curfew as a ‘final nail in the coffin’ for some establishments.

Meanwhile, the Government has backtracked on its plan to start allowing fans back into stadiums. ‘We have to acknowledge the spread of the virus is now affecting our ability to reopen large sporting events,’ Boris Johnson said on Tuesday.

‘We will not be able to do this from October 1 and I recognise the implications for our sports clubs, which are the life and soul of our communities.

‘The chancellor and the culture secretary are working urgently on what we can do now to support them.’
