Arsenal are going hell-for-leather in order to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on deadline day so what number would he get if he does sign?
Arsenal have reportedly offered to pay Partey’s £45m release clause and the player is set to have a medical in Spain. So if he does arrive, as looks very likely now, what number could he get?
Partey wears the number 5 shirt at Atletico Madrid. At Arsenal, that is currently on the back of Sokratis, although he isn’t using it too much and the club are trying to get him out the door on the same day Partey would arrive, meaning it is possible the midfielder could have the number he’d most likely want.
.@skysports_sheth on Partey: “It is our understanding today that Arsenal are pushing very, very hard to get this deal over the line. Arsenal don’t have to do any negotiation with Atletico, they have to go to La Liga & say, ‘Here’s the £45m, we can now talk to Partey’.” [Sky] #afc

If Sokratis ends up staying and Arsenal let him keep his number, Partey might ask for the 22, the number he wore at Atletico for three seasons before he went back to the five. He can’t have that one as Pablo Mari is currently not using it.
Mari has also wore the six and seven for a single season each but they belong to Gabriel and Bukayo Saka respectively.
Lucas Torreira’s 11 will become available when he completes his move to Atletico Madrid but that should never again be given to a defensive midfielder.
18 is the first number that is available at Arsenal at present.
