Arsenal reached an agreement for the £800k transfer of Hertha BSC’s Omar Rekik on Monday, but it won’t go through until January.

Arsenal will sign 18-year-old Omar Rekik in January, after running out of time for the deal this month. According to Chris Wheatley, the Gunners reached an agreement with Hertha on Monday, but they needed more time for the relevant medical and admin.

As a result, Arsenal will have to wait to do the £800k transfer in the winter window. That’s not a hugely long wait, of course, given the late ending of the summer window in October. We’re already less than three months away.

For the time being, Rekik will remain in Berlin, joined by Matteo Guendouzi on loan from Arsenal.

Rekik won’t be a first-team signing when he arrives. He’s playing for Hertha BSC II (their B team) this season, though he did make the bench for the first team a few times in June. Arsenal are planning the signing for their own u23 team.

According to reports in Germany, the player’s family wanted him to move to England. His older brother Karim previously played for Manchester City, making a few senior appearances.
