Arsenal are open to the possibility of pursuing a return for former academy striker Donyell Malen, as the 21-year-old’s strong form continues.
Dutch outlet SoccerNews report that it’s a matter of when the top European clubs come for Malen now, rather than if. Juventus registered cautious interest with Mino Raiola in the summer, and Arsenal are also considering a return for their former player.
Malen turned down any approaches in the last few months, as he values the guarantee of playing time at PSV in the build-up to the Euros in 2021. The forward is a full Netherland international, so he has a good chance of making it to the tournament.
The other factor was Malen’s knee injury. After 17 goals and nine assists in 25 appearances last season, he had knee surgery ruling him out for the rest of the campaign. He missed a few months of football before lockdown called things off anyway.
The PSV man returned in similar form in 2020/21, scoring five and assisting two in his first eight games back. He got another Netherlands call-up in October and started against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
If Arsenal want to bring him in, they may want to push a deal through early next summer before the Euros. We all know what the major international tournaments can do to player prices.
