Arsenal weighed up a move for 19-year-old Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies before he moved to Germany, according to Francis Cagigao.

CBS Sports report that former Arsenal scout Francis Cagigao revealed to them that Arsenal were ‘weighing up’ a move for Alphonso Davies before Bayern Munich beat them to the player’s signature.

Davies was playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS, joining their academy at 14 years old. He then joined Bayern in 2018, completing his transfer in the summer but remaining in Vancouver until the end of the year to complete the MLS season.

Since then, he’s made 57 appearances for Bayern, scoring four goals and assisting 10 despite often playing at left-back. He’s won five domestic trophies in Germany, as well as the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

The teenager was particularly impressive in that Champions League run, providing assists against Spurs, Chelsea, and Barcelona. He played the full 90 minutes of the semi-final and final as well.

Sadly, Davies picked up an ankle ligament injury last weekend and will miss six to eight weeks. But he has a very bright future and will surely come back strong.

To sum up, it’s definitely a shame Arsenal missed out on such a big talent. It sounds like Bayern were just on his case a bit earlier, and by the time the Gunners were making a move, it was too late.

Thankfully, Arsenal have good options on the left, like Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka. They’ll just have to accept they missed out on this one and move on.
