Arsenal are one of the clubs with an interest in 20-year-old Brazil centre-forward Brenner, according to reports in Italy.
Calciomercato.it report that Arsenal join the likes of Ajax, Juventus, Lazio, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain in following young Brazilian forward Brenner.
The player is of particular interest to European clubs because he has the potential to get an Italian passport through his maternal ancestry. If you remember, that’s the same way Gabriel Martinelli avoided needing a work permit to join Arsenal.
Brenner has 15 goals and three assists in 25 appearances for Sao Paulo this year. He’s represented his country at various youth levels, but he’s still waiting for a senior call-up. It’s fair to say there’s quite a bit of competition in the Brazil national team.
With another goal and assist at the weekend, it’s no surprise the transfer rumours are surfacing right now. As a strong finisher who can hold onto the ball well and is a threat in the air despite his 5’9″ height, you can understand why Arsenal are in the mix too.
Brenner reportedly has a €50m release clause for clubs from abroad, but Sao Paulo could negotiate a lower fee. With under two years left on his contract, it’s starting to reach the point where they need to cash in or extend.
