Ian Wright has revealed he was ‘hammered’ by Manchester United legend Roy Keane after Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta’s side suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Aston Villa on Sunday to slip to 11th in the Premier League, six points behind current leaders Leicester City.

Arsenal have now lost half of their league matches this season and former Red Devils captain Keane appears to be enjoying the club’s poor form.

Manchester United had a fierce rivalry with Arsenal while Keane was at Old Trafford and the former midfielder famously clashed with Gunners hero Patrick Vieira in the Highbury tunnel in 2005.

Wright said on the Wrighty’s House podcast: ‘Do you know who’s been hammering me [since Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa]?

‘You know when you get texts from people while you’re watching the game? Not only while I’m watching the game but when it finished and as I was about to start Match of the Day, do you know who was still hammering me?

‘Roy Keane. Honestly, all the way up to when we were about to start Match of the Day, he was hammering me.

‘He left me so stuff that I couldn’t really answer him. So I just woke up on Monday morning and sent him back a torrid of abuse!

‘People don’t realise his genuine love for the game. He’s always so insightful.’ Wright admits he was shocked by Arsenal’s performance against Villa and described the Premier League clash as ‘men against boys’.

‘The thing with the Aston Villa game, I don’t know where that came from,’ Wright added. ‘I don’t know where that performance came from.

‘Since Arteta came in, Arsenal have improved and I never thought I’d see Arsenal under him put in a performance like that. I wasn’t expecting it.

‘I wasn’t expecting that kind of hammering. It could have been six. The first goal made me think, the guys are not on it today. It was men against boys.’
