Hungary head coach Marco Rossi believes Dominik Szoboszlai will end up in the Bundesliga with his next move, despite the likes of Arsenal and Napoli registering a strong interest in the Salzburg star.

The 20-year-old Hungary international is fast making a name for himself as one of the finest young midfielders in world football and his stunning solo goal against Iceland last week did little to quash rumours of a possible big-money transfer.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Szoboszlai over the last few weeks and recent reports in Germany suggested Leipzig were closing in on an agreement with sister club Salzburg for the talented youngster.

It’s understood Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keeping close tabs on Szoboszlai’s performances after his outstanding start to the season in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Asked about Napoli’s interest, Szoboszlai’s national boss, Rossi, told Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 TV: ‘I’ve never talked to him about Napoli but he reads and inquires.

‘I wouldn’t mind if he moved to Napoli in Italy as, living in Pozzuoli, I would be able to see him more often.

‘But my feeling is that he is more likely to end up in Germany: he is ready to make the leap, going to the Bundesliga where there’s a faster pace.

‘The Austrian football of Salzburg is similar to that of the Bundesliga and a move to Italy would involve changes and periods of adaptation from a tactical point of view.’

Leipzig are reportedly in pole position to land Szoboszlai but his agent last week played down talk of a possible deal to join the Bundesliga club.

‘Dominik Szoboszlai has no agreement with Leipzig or any other club, except of course his current club Red Bull Salzburg,’ Esterhazy Matyas told Index. While Salzburg are in no rush to part with Szoboszlai, it’s been suggested that they may be willing to do business for a fee as little as €20million (£17.9m) plus add-ons.

It’s understood Lyon’s Houssem Aouar remains Arsenal’s top target in midfield despite the speculation surrounding Szoboszlai.

The Gunners had a series of bids turned down for Aouar across the summer transfer window and are expected to return with an offer for the France international in January.

Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku – who Unai Emery tried and failed to sign during his time in north London – is another player firmly on Arsenal’s radar.
