Thomas Partey will miss the next few matches with injury, but Mikel Arteta says the setback wasn’t something they could predict.

Thomas Partey hasn’t had much luck with Arsenal so far, since his transfer to the club in October. The midfielder only made a few starts before picking up two injuries against Aston Villa, and when he returned a month later, he immediately picked up another.

The timing of the North London derby injury wasn’t great. For a start, it happened right before Spurs launched a counter-attack for their second goal, but it also raised questions about Arsenal’s late decision to include him in the game.

Mikel Arteta confirmed the injury is in the same area as before, but it’s not exactly the same problem and they’d run all the required tests before starting him last weekend.

“He got injured in the same area, not exactly the same spot but the same area as before,” Arteta said. “He will miss the next few matches.

“We tested him three times (before Spurs) and he had zero symptoms, but in football, you have a lot of unpredictable actions.

“He went into the floor, his knee got stuck, afterwards he stretched and got up. Immediately he put a lot of stress in a similar area and it happened.”

TheAFCBell report that the player and club initially feared a more serious injury, but although the MRI results did show an injury, it wasn’t as bad as they expected. At this stage, there’s still no set return date for him.
