Agent of Arsenal Fan Favourite Issues January Transfer Statement -Not Ozil

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, Sky Sport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, players, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Lucas Torreira’s agent claims the player is calm and happy with Atletico Madrid, and he simply needs time to adapt to his new loan club.

Amid plenty of speculation around Lucas Torreira’s loan spell in Spain right now, the player’s agent insists there are no issues with him at Atletico Madrid. Pablo Bentancur claims his client is just in a period of adaptation.

“Lucas is calm and happy and has nothing else in mind beyond continuing with Atletico,” Bentancur told “He’s finishing his process of adaptation.”

TMW reported on Monday that Lucas Torreira and Atletico Madrid were set to part ways in January, with the midfielder failing to meet expectations on his loan spell.

However, even before Bentancur’s statement, reports from Spain refuted this claim. Matteo Moretto wrote that Atletico do not intend to let Torreira leave in January.

Mikel Arteta also addressed the reports surrounding Torreira at the moment, though he didn’t really give too much away.

Arteta said: “We have been dealing with that situation, but again, when the market opens and we have the possibility to bring players in and get players out, whatever we have to do, we will discuss it. I cannot comment on that.”

The reason the initial TMW report was so believable is that Torreira is genuinely struggling to break into the Atletico starting lineup.

As we wrote recently, he hasn’t made a start since October 24th, despite appearing in the squad eight times since then. He’s only spent 67 minutes on the pitch in over a month, even accounting for the two weeks he missed through Covid.

Wednesday night is another opportunity to get the midfielder involved, as Atletico play against CD Cardassar in the Copa del Rey. If Torreira can’t even get a start in that one, then it really does become concerning.
