Thomas Partey (thigh) is still sidelined for the Gunners, while Granit Xhaka and Gabriel will also miss out through suspension and Gabriel Martinelli may feature for the under-23s on Friday as he bids to build up match fitness.

Mikel Arteta revealed that Arsenal have “a few doubts” going into the weekend, although his refusal to name names is compounded by the fact that the Gunners haven’t released their usual injury bulletin ahead of the trip to Everton.

Two players who are still flagged with injuries are Reiss Nelson and Sead Kolasinac but given that their reported clash of heads in training happened over a week ago, any concussion protocol would now have been served.

Willian and Alexandre Lacazette could return at the expense of Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah after midweek benchings, with Arteta telling reporters on Friday that the Gunners “have to change personnel for a lot of different reasons”.

Hector Bellerin is now free of suspension, meanwhile, and may be swiftly reinstated on the right flank given that he was an ever-present starter up until the point of his one-match ban.

Someone else getting a lot of game-time of late is Bukayo Saka, who has already clocked up 180 minutes in the last week.

A benching, with perhaps Ainsley Maitland-Niles covering, is a possibility, then, although his importance to the Arsenal cause grows by the game.

Youngsters Joe Willock and Emile Smith-Rowe will be hoping to get a look-in, having impressed in Europe over the last month or so.
