Mikel Arteta reveals Arsenal are now in the phase of adding to their squad in the transfer window
Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal are targeting a natural left-back in the January transfer window.
Sead Kolasinac’s return to Schalke means that Arsenal only have Kieran Tierney as their natural left-footed defender.
Bukayo Saka is also capable of deputising at left-back in Tierney’s absence, but the 19-year-old is thriving in a more advanced role for Arsenal this season.
And Arteta admits signing direct competition for the Scotland international is on Arsenal’s agenda this month.
‘With the departure of Kola, we are a little bit short with left-footed full-backs at the moment,’ said Arteta.
‘We know we can use Ainsley there, we can use Bukayo there and we can use Cedric – who has played in that position – so we have some options. A natural option to Kieran? Obviously, we don’t. But we can adapt.
‘We are looking at various positions because the movements that we’ve made in this transfer window with some players leaving the club leaves us a little bit short in certain areas.
‘If we can then we will do it, if we can’t then we will just keep going with what we have.’
